2K Recruits Apex Legends Developer to Revitalize Challenged Action Game Project Ethos
2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Comes After Poor Feedback
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing early showing last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a distinct game identity.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to address community desires.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
This announcement mirrors a similar action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock development group.
Below is the complete content from Ismailer's communication:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just completed your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to endure.”
With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It revealed the requirement for a clearer brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the input to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s ready to achieve its ambition to our audience.
The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. Following some time of talks, he starts with us on the specified date.
Ben’s leadership and experience in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having spent the recent years developing and overseeing some of the most popular titles in gaming, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in welcoming Ben next week. We are all eager to persist observing the progress of the game in the weeks to follow.
David
Background of the New Leader
Brinkman presently holds the role of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in diverse production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, before that, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Game Information and Concept
Project Ethos was revealed in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Initially, the developers presented the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative step forward on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary reads. "Face the rivals with new abilities, risks, and tests that change every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Or take a risk, put it on the line, and trust your team can secure victory? The option is yours."
The game has not yet received an official launch window or platforms, but players can expect further news as creation continues.
